Getting Published by Aspen Mountain Press

To be considered for ebook publication, a manuscript must be between 20,000 and 90,000 words. Every genre is considered, but Aspen Mountain Press particularly looks for manuscripts that encompass two distinct fiction categories, such as a Western mystery or a horror romance. Stories cannot promote religious or racial intolerance.

Before submitting a query, check the website to ensure that submissions are being accepted. When overbooked with titles, the publisher may stop accepting them for a specific period of time. The company has a sister online publishing company that publishes only Regency Romance. If Aspen is not accepting manuscripts, Aurora Regency may be accepting them.

To submit to Aspen or Aurora, you must have he full rights to your manuscript. If the book has been published before, be prepared to offer proof that the rights have reverted back. Both the digital book rights and print rights must be available. While the publisher currently offers only digital books, it has plans to expand into print format. Expect a response within 16 weeks of your query.

What the Publisher Looks For

For the best chance of publication with Aspen, create a manuscript that has imaginative plots and new ways to tell an old story rather than a formulaic format with nothing new to say. Any historical works must have complete historical accuracy. Everything form language to social customs must be captured accurately.

Romance novels can be anywhere from "sweet" with no explicit scenes to erotic novels with plenty of them. Westerns should be post-Civil War, and can encompass that period through modern times. Aspen specifically requests romance Westerns that involve Native Americans and cowboys.

The mystery genre is wide open with Aspen. Just about anything goes as long as the story is engaging and interesting to read. Horror novels should be in the vein of Hitchcock, King and Koontz, with eerie storytelling instead of simply gore.

Interracial and multi-cultural books are welcomed. These can include romances, Western, mysteries and any other genre in which the theme will fit seamlessly. Stereotypes of any ethnic or religious groups are not permitted.
