While the local newspaper used to be the best place to go for classified ads, there are now many other options. Anyone can post free classified ads online quickly and easily and get a much wider audience. While this may not be the best way to reach a local audience, it can be an advantage for Internet marketing purposes.
USFreeAds
One of the largest sites for free classified ads, USFreeAds is a popular place to post ads because it has a high page rank and comes up early in search results. For this reason, many affiliate marketers use the ads to market products and to direct traffic to websites. By using affiliate links in these online classified ads, Internet marketers can take advantage of USFreeAds' high page rank.
ClassifiedAds.com
This site doesn't have a page ranks as high as USFreeAds and isn't of much help in Internet marketing. It is, however, a good place to post free classified ads that can be searched by topic and zip code. Anyone interested in interacting with the poster does so through the site, offering a small layer of safety to the transaction.
FreeAdvertisingForum.com
This site caters to free classified ads for Internet marketing. The site has a high page rank like USFree Ads and welcomes affiliate advertising. The site runs slightly differently from many online classified ads, however.
FreeAdvertisingForum has a social element in asking ad posters to become members of the site and to interact with other members. The site is useful for networking with other marketers and for getting a high page rank for affiliate links.
Craigslist
This is a collection of sites that focus on specific cities or regions. The site allows anyone to post free classified ads, but the ads are not placed on all of the sites. The recent rules for the site state that an ad for a specific item or service can only be posted every 48 hours.
How long the listings stay on the site depends on the city and what type of ad is posted. The time periods range from seven to 45 days. The site's free classified ads run only on one of the sites at a time, making it a slower way to attract national attention than with other online classified ads.
Wal-mart Free Classifieds
Wal-mart is now offering free online classified ads with city and region pages similar to Craigslist. Each free listing stays live for 30 days. Classified ads that are posted just to attract traffic to a website are prohibited.
Freecycle
Freecycle doesn't work exactly like other online classified ads, but it has a huge following for one reason- everything posted on Freecycle is given away for free. The site bans any type of payment for the items. People who want to get rid of things post an ad describing the item and how to pick it up.
Freecycle members then send a message to the poster requesting the item or more information about it. The items are often given to the first one who responds, though posters are free to give their items to any of the responders. All of the ads are posted to the Freecycle site for each individual city and are also available as individual emails or a daily email digest.
